Myth: Yoga is only for rich people
Myth: Yoga is for Rich People
Yoga can be practiced anywhere. We don’t need fancy clothes or an expensive mat. Truly, we really only need our breath and our body. Any size body. That said, it’s pretty wonderful to be in a class and practice with other people. And if you haven’t learned it, coming to a class is very helpful to learn the practices. And therein, lies the rub.
Like most things that have a lot of power and effectiveness, society tends to capitalize on that and make money. Yoga classes are typically expensive. It does take a lot of time, money, and effort for studios to stay afloat, and classes often reflect that. But sometimes it feels like it’s just priced out of range for far too many.
Yoga should be accessible to everyone who is interested, regardless of the amount of disposable income to afford classes. Yoga has been shown to improve physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. It is helpful for all people, regardless of tax bracket.
At Full Radiance Yoga, we believe that yoga should be accessible for anyone who wants to learn. Classes and workshops are by donation. You pay what you can. If you can pay more, please do. If you can come and you have only a dollar to spend, please come. We are trusting that creating an affordable, accessible yoga space will draw enough people who can support it, so that we can still pay our bills and keep the doors open. And in that trusting process, we open the possibility that more of our neighbors and community can feel welcome to step in the door and take a deep breath.
Let’s support each other. Yoga is for everyone. Regardless of how much money you have. We look forward to having you in class.
Yoga mats and props are free to use. Come in any comfortable clothes you have. Yoga clothes are not a requirement. Come as you are. You are welcome.
